Sacramento area-based grocers have lost market share over the last few years, largely edged out by one retail giant whose grocery division makes up only a portion of its business.
In 2023, local consumers spent nearly $8.7 billion on groceries throughout the region’s 354 stores, according to data collected by Chain Store Guide, a Florida-based research firm that tracks retail and food service intelligence. The local data accounts for grocery stores in Sacramento, Yolo, El Dorado and Placer counties.
