The bakery department is enjoying a robust start to 2025, and retailers predict spring heading into the summer season will remain strong.
While February saw numbers just a little under 2024 totals with $3.85 billion in sales, March figured were expected to be higher, according to the International Dairy Deli Bakery Association (IDBBA), and the segment is still up 22.3% compared to three years ago.
Carmela Serebryany, board chair of the IDBBA and president of Upper Crust, which provides retailers with bakery items, appeared as a guest on the IDBBA podcast Executive Aisle with David Haaf in April. She said a key trend she’s seeing is retailers adding freshly baked products to their variety.
