Tens of thousands of Safeway and Albertsons across California could be impacted by a workers strike if a deal is not made soon.

A release from unions UFCW 8-Golden State, and UFCW Locals 5 and 648 states that if a deal is not made by midnight Friday, workers from the Grapevine to the south of the Oregon-California border plan to strike starting at 12:01 a.m. Saturday.

“This is about fairness and respect for hard-working, frontline members who keep our communities fed and our stores running,” said Jacques Loveall, President of UFCW 8-Golden State, in a release. “We’re calling on Safeway-Albertsons to do right by union members and agree to a contract that reflects their value and dedication.”
