Grocery workers from Albertsons, Safeway, and Vons have reached a tentative agreement, averting a significant strike.
The union representing the workers says the new deal promises economic security and improved benefits for 25,000 workers.
“This agreement is the result of our members standing strong together,” said UFCW 8-Golden State President Jacques Loveall. “Because of their unity and determination, this new agreement will bring them the respect and dignity they deserve.”
The tentative agreement includes meaningful wage increases, a secure retirement plan, properly funded health care benefits, and strong job protection measures. These negotiations followed five months of intensive discussions and a potential walkout by more than 25,000 grocery workers.
