California lawmakers, who pledged this year to address the state’s affordability crisis, are now weighing a proposal to stop companies from using personal data to set different prices. It’s a move retailers say could undermine loyalty program discounts.
Assembly Bill 446, moving through the Capitol, would ban companies from using customers’ personal data to charge different prices for the same item, building on California’s existing privacy laws.
