Monthly U.S. online grocery sales rose sharply in December, increasing 32% from a year earlier to a record $12.7 billion, according to data released Thursday from the Brick Meets Click Grocery Shopper Survey.

The growth was driven by higher order frequency, increased spending per order and an expanded customer base compared with December 2024.

“December set a record high for monthly [ecommerce] sales,” said David Bishop, a partner at analytics and strategic insight firm Brick Meets Click. He said growth was uneven across retail formats and operators and was influenced by longer-term changes in shopping behavior that could present challenges for some grocers in 2026.
