John Winger was facing a dilemma: He wanted to retire from running his independent, small-town grocery store, but he didn’t want to leave his local community in the lurch.
Apart from his store, Royal Super Mart, the nearest full-service grocery store is 15 miles away from the tiny town of Sheffield, Ill., a farming village with a population of about 800 people.
