Kroger’s next CEO will be the first in the company’s 143-year history to be selected from outside the company, the retailer’s top human resources executive told a local media outlet.
Tim Massa, chief people officer at Cincinnati-based Kroger, said that selecting the “first-ever external hire CEO in our company’s 143-year history” was his biggest goal for the year ahead, in response to a question from the Cincinnati Business Courier. The publication on Thursday honored Massa at its annual C-Suite Awards in the chief human resources officer category.
Kroger has been conducting a search for a new CEO since the abrupt resignation of former CEO Rodney McMullen in March following a board of directors investigation into his conduct, which the company said violated its business ethics policy.
