A potential strike by thousands of Manitoba grocery store workers has been put back on the shelf.
The bargaining committee for United Food and Commercial Workers Local 832 said it and employer Loblaw Companies Ltd. reached a tentative agreement early Thursday.
The current contract is set to expire at 12 a.m. Friday.
“Though we can’t discuss specifics at this time, I can say that I’m proud of the work our committee has done on behalf of all (workers),” Jeff Traeger, UFCW 832 president and lead negotiator, said in a statement. “In this tentative agreement, we’ve achieved recognition for the work our members did during the (COVID-19) pandemic and have achieved gains for all workers.”
