Unionized Kroger workers across Indiana have rejected a tentative contract with the grocery chain, sending negotiators back to the bargaining table and raising the potential for a statewide strike of some 8,000 employees.
The United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 700 said in a press release Monday that members rejected the tentative agreement, with almost three-quarters (74%) voting no.
The union called the Cincinnati-based grocery chain’s proposed wage increase “measly”, noting that thousands of workers would see “just a $0.25 raise in the first year, and between $0.50 and $0.75 over the entire four-year contract.”
